Definition
A birthing chair, also known as a birth chair, is a device that is shaped to assist a woman in the physiological upright posture during childbirth. The birthing chair is intended to provide balance and support to mothers giving birth.
The shape encourages a forward tilt of the pelvis and leaves the coccyx free to move in second stage.The front opening allows supervision of the birth process.

The material of the birth chair can be hard when the woman needs to sit on it for long period. It is suggested to change position in case the women start to feel uncomfortable.
A towel or sheet can be used underneath to make it more comfortable.
Maintenance
Clean with water and soap and disinfect after every birth following MSF IPC recommendations (as for any delivery table).
After each use, the stool has to be cleaned and disinfected with a detergent/disinfectant solution for surfaces /non-invasive medical equipment. Prepare use-solution in concentration required. Always read the label and product information before use. Do not mix the with other products. Make sure to wet surfaces completely, use a wipe or towel, keep them wet for the whole exposure time.
