Instructions for use

Reconstitute the powder vial with 10 ml of water for injection to obtain a concentrated solution at 5 mg/ml amphotericin B.

Dilute the concentrated solution in 500 ml of 5% glucose to obtain a solution at 0.1 mg/ml amphotericin B for slow IV infusion.

The liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome®) is better absorbed and has less risk of renal toxicity than the conventional amphotericin B (Fungizone®) for the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis.

Precautions for Use

For slow IV infusion, use only 5% glucose (not compatible with other infusion fluids).

Storage

  • Powder: between 2ºC and 8°C. In the absence of a refrigerator, can be stored for 7 days maximum below 25°C.
  • Concentrated solution (5 mg/ml): keep refrigerated between 2ºC and 8°C for 24hrs maximum. Do not freeze.
  • Solution for infusion (0.1 mg/ml): use immediately. Protect from sunlight
