GLIBENCLAMIDE - NST

Therapeutic Action

Sulphonylurea (stimulates insulin secretion)

Indications

Second-line treatment of type-2 diabetes in patients under 60 years

Gliclazide is preferred for the same indication due to its lower risk of hypoglycaemia.

Instructions for use

Glibenclamide is used:

  • as monotherapy when metformin is not tolerated or contraindicated.
  • in combination with metformin when glycaemic control is inadequate with metformin alone.

Precautions for Use

Contraindicated in case of ketosis, porphyria.

Contraindicated during breastfeeding.

Caution must be taken in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, the elderly, during Ramadan or other fasting periods.

Stop administration during surgery, the 1st trimester of pregnancy, or in cases of trauma.
