Definition

Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) in paste form, intended for children with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), in accordance with WHO guidelines Supplementary foods for the management of moderate acute malnutrition in infants and children 6-59 months of age, 2012.

​RUSF can also be used as nutritional support in emergency situations.

RUSF paste was first developed with peanuts. It is now available with corn and chickpeas. There is no significant difference between the taste of peanut- and corn-based products, as demonstrated by acceptability studies. These products have the same nutritional properties.

Packaging & Labelling

Primary and secondary packaging must protect the hygienic and nutritional qualities of the product during transport, handling, storage under MSF field conditions.

  • Primary packaging (unit packaging): 100 g aluminum sachet
  • Secondary packaging: box of 150 sachets

Instructions for use

This product does not require dilution or cooking. Its packaging facilitates direct consumption.

The product must not be subjected to ionising treatment.

Storage

  • Below 30ºC - Protect from sunlight - Protect from humidity
  • Shelf life: 24 months from the manufacturing date stated on the sachet.
  • After opening, the product should be consumed within 24 hrs.
