EPOETIN ALFA

Therapeutic Action

Antianemic, erythropoietin

Protein that stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells, which carry haemoglobin. Epoetin alfa is a copy of the human protein erythropoietin and acts in the same way.

Indications

Severe anaemia in tuberculosis patients receiving linezolid

Instructions for use

Pre-filled syringe of 0.1 ml containing 10,000 IU (84.0 micrograms) epoetin alfa, for single use.

Before use, allow the syringe to stand until it reaches room temperature. This usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.

Do not shake the syringe.

The solution must be clear and colourless.

The product is for single use only. Use only one dose from each syringe.

If only part of the dose contained in the syringe is required, remove the needle cap and push the plunger to the desired numbered graduation in order to remove the unwanted amount of solution before injection.

Depending on the indication, the product may be given as IV or SC injection.

Monitor blood pressure and haemoglobin levels closely.

Storage

  • Keep refrigerated between 2ºC and 8ºC - Protect from sunlight
  • Do not freeze.
  • Shelf life: 18 to 24 months depending on manufacturer
  • Any unused product must be disposed of.
  • Discard any syringe if the solution is coloured or contains particles, if the packaging is damaged, in the event of accidental freezing or refrigerator breakdown.
