SUCTION PUMP, ELECTRICAL (Vario 18)

Definition

An assembly of devices designed to evacuate fluid, tissue, gas, or other foreign materials from a body cavity or lumen by means of suction. It generally consists of a mains electricity (AC-powered) suction pump, tubing, plastic/glass collection container(s), a vacuum gauge, a vacuum control knob, an overflow trap, a moisture filter, and a microbial filter. The pump creates a vacuum in the suction tubing, which is inserted into the body for the removal of materials into the collection container. This system can be used in a wide variety of settings within healthcare facilities.

Instructions for use

The suction hose should never come into direct contact with secretion to be extracted (use a suction tube).

The collection bottle must be emptied as soon as it is half-filled.

The antibacterial filter must be replaced at least once a week, and every time it has been in contact with the liquid.

The safety device protects the pump against overflow: suction is interrupted when foam or liquids reach the safety level in the small jar. All components are reusable and can be steam sterilized at 134°C.

Precautions for Use

Contact your biomedical officer in order to see the need to protect the apparatus with a double conversion UPS (see related articles below).

Maintenance

The collection bottle must be pre-disinfected, cleaned and sterilised by steam autoclave.
