LARVAE CONTROL Sumilarv (pyriproxyfen) for mosquito control
Definition
Mosquito larval control agent based on the insect growth regulator pyriproxyfen. Granular or Water Dispersable Granules formulation that can be applied directly to water bodies.
Granules: yellowish, no characteristic odour
Specifications
- Mosquito larval control agent. Mode of action based on insect growth control regulator.
- Effective against broad spectrum of mosquito species as well as houseflies.
- Low mammalian toxicity
- Does not kill larvae directly, rather disrupts their development to the next stage (pupa), resulting in mortality of pupae and consequent prevention of adult emergence. Any emerging adults are likely to be less fertile due to exposure to the product.
- According to manufacturer, active ingredient (Pyriproxyfen) is validated by WHO for use in drinking water in concentrations up to 0.01 mg/liter
- Long duration of activity (depending on field conditions)
Components
- Active ingredient: Pyriproxyfen 0.5% w/w
- Other ingredients (carrier): 95.5% w/w

Instructions for use
Larval control is best suited for a context where mosquito breeding sites are limited in number, relatively permanent in time, and not widely dispersed. To effectively carry out larviciding activities it is necessary to locate and map all the potential breeding sites within the flight range of the vector. The product can be used by directly applying the undiluted granules into breeding sites
The undiluted granules should be dosed using a pre- calibrated scoop or spoon.
For application in reservoirs containing non- potable water that can be used by mosquitoes for breeding: Such reservoirs include open irrigation tanks, lakes, ponds, swamps, cisterns etc. The application rate to be used is 2- 10 g of product/ 1000 liters of water. The exact application rate depends on the habitat conditions and the program objectives. To define the exact application rate, contact your technical referent.
When dosing natural water bodies or semi-polluted waters, retreatment should be foreseen after 4- 6 months if the lowest dose of treatment has been administered.
For application in drinking water reservoirs: 2 grams of product per 1000 liters of water should be applied.Retreatment should be foreseen after 3- 4 months if the lowest dose of treatment has been administered.
Precautions for Use
The product's safety data sheet indicates very low mammalian toxicity. However, when handling the product, standard protective measures should be followed:
- When handling the undiluted granules or mixing the product use an FFP- 2/ N95 particle mask
- Wear protective clothing during handling and application (goggles, clothes covering arms and legs, gloves, FFP2/ N95 particle mask when handling the undiluted product).
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not apply on surfaces used for preparation of food.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke during use.
- Avoid direct contact with eyes and skin. After application wash any exposed body parts and change cloths.
