ARTESUNATE + ARGININE

Antimalarial, artemisinine derivative

Indications

Severe malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum

Instructions for use

Combi-pack containing:

  • 1 powder vial of 60 mg artesunate
  • 1 ampoule containing 3 ml of 0.84% (8.4 mg/ml) sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) + 2% (20 mg/ml) arginine for reconstitution

This new formulation of artesunate means there is no need to separately reconstitute and dilute the artesunate powder. It allows a simpler and faster administration, reducing the risk of preparation errors.

ARTESUNATE 60mg, powder,vial + NaHCO3 5% 1ml + NaCl 0.9% 5ml (DINJARTS6V-) and ARTESUNATE 60mg, pwd vial + ARGININE 2%/NaHCO3 0.84% 3ml (DINJARTS6V3) are interchangeable, with the same weight-based dosing. Missions should gradually shift from DINJARTS6V- to DINJARTS6V3.

Must be given as slow IV or IM injection.

Precautions for Use

Never administer by IV infusion.

Do not use water for injection to reconstitute the artesunate powder. Use the diluents contained in the 3 ml ampoule provided.

Storage

  • Below 25ºC - Protect from sunlight
  • After reconstitution, use the solution immediately.
  • Do not refrigerate or freeze.
