SSRI antidepressants (fluoxetine, paroxetine) are antidepressants with fewer contraindications and adverse effects and are first line in treatment of depression.
Precautions for Use
Administer with caution and monitor combination with:
- CNS depressants (opioid analgesics, sedatives, H1 anti-histamines, etc.)
- medicines known to have anticholinergic effects (atropine, chlorpromazine, promethazine, etc.)
- medicines which lower the seizure threshold (antipsychotics, mefloquine, etc.)
- serotonergic medicines (SSRI, tricyclic antidepressants, ondansetron, tramadol, etc.)
- anti-hypertensive medicines
