KIT, IMMUNIZATION, 10 000 vacc./5 teams
Indications
Mass immunization campaign: prevention or control of an epidemic (measles, meningitis, yellow fever...).
Specifications
This kit is composed of cold chain equipment as well as logistic and medical equipment.
It enables immunisation of people affected by an epidemics in refugee camps or an open setting. It can also be used for measles vaccination during a refugee inflow. The kit allows the immunisation of 10,000 people by 5 teams.
WARNING! Safety of injections = auto-disable syringes + containers for the collection, transport and discarding of the used auto-disable syringes and needles.
- The use of auto-disable syringes reduces the risk of blood-borne pathogens transmission to the minimum, as they cannot be reused.
- In accordance with the "Safety injections" policy of WHO, MSF routinely uses auto-disable syringes and security containers for the collection and elimination of sharp waste during mass immunization campaigns.
This kit enables rapid installation of a cold chain and/or reinforcement of existing structures. The fridges and freezers allow to supply several teams.
The modular concept of the kit allows to adapt the orders according to the locally existing equipment and to an increase of the target group (supplementary modules can be ordered separately)
Don't forget to order the vaccines, and to calculate the existing and needed storage capacity. See Management of a measles epidemic, MSF, 2013 and Management of epidemic meningococcal meningitis, MSF, 2016.
Before ordering, the following information should be collected:
- The number of people to be immunised, the number of needed teams, the duration of the campaign, the distances and the moving time between the vaccines stock and the immunisation sites.
- The average cold storage capacity:
- 10,000 doses of measles vaccine => 30 litres
- 10,000 doses of meningitis vaccine => 20 litres
Make sure that the equipment is available and in working condition.
- The ice packs freezing capacity:
- Compression freezers (with compressor and working on electricity) can freeze about 10-30 kg/24 h (i.e. 15-50 ice packs of 0.6 l/24 h).
- Absorption freezers (without compressor and working on kerosene or gas) can usually freeze 4 kg/24 h (i.e. 6 ice packs of 0.6 l/24 h).
- Solar models have an insufficient freezing capacity for an immunisation campaign.
- Availability and reliability of the power supply 24 h a day. In case of doubt, don't hesitate to order the energy kit (KPROKGEND3-).
- Transport capacity: Every team should have its own equipment to transport and monitor vaccines. If there are not enough vaccine-carriers and cold-boxes available, the cold chain transport module can be ordered (KMEDMIMM31-).
Instructions for use
The refrigeration module (KMEDMIMM30-) and transport module (KMEDMIMM31-) have a capacity allowing to vaccine 20,000 persons/day.
Precautions for Use
The solvents should not be stored in the freezer.
The generator kit can supply for 6 refrigerators maximum with electricity. Switch on each apparatus one after the other and only when the generator is running
Whenever numerous optional items are required, it is recommended to order complete modules instead of individual items.
