CLINICAL CHEMISTRY ANALYSER (HemoCue HbA1c 501)

Definition

An automated portable device for the quantitative measurement of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in whole blood. The measurement is based on the boronate affinity method and results are measured photometrically.

HbA1c values reflect the glucose concentrations for the previous 8-12 weeks and are therefore an indicator of the long-term glycaemic control in diabetes. An elevated HbA1c indicates poor glycaemic control. HbA1c is expressed as percentage of the total haemoglobin concentration: HbA1c %.
