COLUMBIA CNA AGAR

Definition

Columbia CNA Agar (Columbia Colistin Nalidixic Acid Agar) is a selective and differential medium for gram-positive bacteria. It can be supplemented with 5% of sheep blood.

It contains two antibiotics, Colistine and Nalidixic Acid, which inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria, thus selecting for gram-positive organisms.

  • Pancreatic digest of casein 12.0 g
  • Peptic digest of animal tissue 5.0 g
  • Yeast extract 3.0 g
  • Beef extract 3.0 g
  • Corn starch 1.0 g
  • Sodium chloride. 5.0 g
  • Agar 13.5 g
  • Colistin 10.0 mg
  • Nalidixic acid 10.0 mg

Technical specifications

  • Powder: fine, homogeneous, free of extraneous material.
  • Soluble in water.
  • Prepared appearance: tan to yellow, hazy.

Precautions for Use

All biological samples must be considered as potentially infectious and handled with the usual precautions (compulsory wearing of gloves, hand washing, etc.).

Storage

  • Follow the recommendations of the manufacturer for the storage.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Expiry date on the bottle.
  • After preparation, store up to 3 weeks at 2°C to 8°C.

Waste management

After use, sterilize the cultures and all contaminated material. Please contact your watsan referent for advice on proper disposal.
